Forecast: Chilly overnight, but high of 49 Sunday

The National Weather Service said tonight that people in the Birmingham metro area should expect clear conditions and sub-freezing low temperatures through Sunday night.

? Tonight, the forecast is for calm conditions with a low around 24 degrees. Sunday, forecasters said, is likely to be sunny, with a high near 49 degrees.

? Sunday, it will be mostly clear, forecasters said, with a mild north wind of about five miles per hour. The low is expected to be around 27 degrees Sunday night.

? Temperatures are expected to rise Monday, with a high near 55 degrees and sunny skies. Winds are forecast to be between five miles per hour and 10 miles per hour. Monday night, there is a 20 percent chain or rain, with a low around 45 degrees.

Forecast: Overnight low in the Birmingham area will drop to 22

It will be another chilly night in the Birmingham area, as the overnight low is expected to drop to 22, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday will be sunny with a high near 47 and a low around 28.

There will be more sunny skies, and slightly higher temperatures, on Friday. The high will be near 52 with a low Friday night around 41.

Saturday's forecast calls for a 40 percent chance of precipitation that afternoon and a 70 percent chance that night.

Skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 61 and a low around 37.

Chilly days, bitterly cold overnight temps on tap

Cold days and bone-chilling overnight lows are expected through Thursday, followed by slightly warmer tempertures later in the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight lows will drop into the low 20s tonight, setting the stage for the next several nights.

On Monday, a dry, cold air mass is expected to move into central Alabama and stay for the next several days. The day will be mostly sunny, with a high near 42. Overnight, expect clear skies and a low around 22.

Tuesday's forecast calls for sunny skies, with a high near 44. Overnight, the mercury will dip to around 25.

Wednesday calls for another sunny day, with a high near 48 and an overnight low around 24.

Thursday is expected to be sunny, with a high near 55. On Thursday night, the overnight low is expected to be around 34.

Severe thunderstorms, isolated tornadoes possible overnight in central Alabama

A line of strong storms that could bring damaging winds, heavy rain, large hail, and possibly isolated tornadoes is expected to move into central Alabama just after midnight.

The National Weather Service said up to two inches of rain could fall in some areas, possibly causing some minor flooding in areas with poor drainage. Winds could travel as fast as 20 mph.

The threat of severe thunderstorms is expected to last until 3 p.m. Tuesday when the storm system is expected to move into Georgia.

Skies will stay cloudy during the early evening Tuesday as the temperature drops to around 30.

Soaking showers overnight, rain likely before noon Friday

Temperatures are expected to plunge below freezing Friday night, with a low around 30, under clear skies.

Saturday will be sunny, with a high near 56. Expect another cold night as the overnight low is expected to drop to 34.

Sunny weather is expected for Sunday, with a high near 63 and an overnight low around 46.
