Metro Birmingham forecast: More cold before a rainy weekend

It was 27 degrees at 6 a.m. in Birmingham and central Alabama has a gray, cold day ahead of it, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast high should be near 40 degrees under cloudy skies. The low tonight should drop to about 18 degrees, followed by sunshine with a high near 47 degrees Thursday and 55 degrees on Friday.

The warming sets up the region for possible rain from late Friday night through Sunday, although the return of cold temperatures on Sunday means some snow will be possible. By Monday, the region could be experiencing its coldest temperatures yet this winter with a daytime high near 32 degrees.

Metro Birmingham forecast: Rainy, warm days lead to cold snap by weekend

It was a balmy 61 degrees at 6 a.m. in Birmingham as central Alabama continued its countdown to Thanksgiving with the start of several potentially rainy days, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast for today calls for a 50 percent chance of rain and possibly thunderstorms in the afternoon. The high should be near 73 degrees and the overnight low near 56 degrees.

The rain could continue through Wednesday although the chance is only 30 percent. Temperatures will continue mild Wednesday with a high near 71 degrees and a low near 56 degrees.

The Thursday holiday also offers rain but only a 20 percent chance during the day, climbing to 70 percent that night. The Thursday high should be near 74 degrees and the low near 45.

Big change comes Friday with continued rain as temperatures drop. The high may be only 51 degrees with a low near freezing to start what promises to be a chilly to cold weekend.

Metro Birmingham forecast: A rainy day before the cold strikes

It was 53 degrees in Birmingham and central Alabama has at least one gray, rainy day and night ahead of it, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast sets the chance of rain at 80 percent today and 70 percent tonight before clearing starts late Thursday morning. The high today should be near 62 degrees and the overnight low about 49 degrees.

The high Thursday should again be about 62 degrees but the low going into Friday morning should be a chill 36 degrees. Friday will be the cold day with a high near 54 degrees and the overnight low possibly touching the freeze mark of 32 degrees on Saturday morning.

Clear tonight and Monday, rainy by Tuesday

Expect clear weather through Monday, but look for rain by Tuesday, according to forecasters at the National Weather Service.

Tonight calls for clear skies and chilly temperatures, with a low around 46.

Monday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 78. On Monday night there will be increasing clouds, a low around 57 and a 20 percent chance of showers.

Tuesday calls for cloudy skies and a 50 percent chance of showers. The high will be near 66. Overnight, expect rain showers and a low around 48.

More showers are likely are Wednesday and the daytime high will reach near 59.

By later in the week, the chance of showers will decrease to 20 percent on Thursday and Friday, with clearing expected for the weekend.

Daily highs Thursday through Sunday are expected to be in the 50s, with overnight lows in the mid-30s.
