Metro Birmingham forecast: A rainy day before the cold strikes

It was 53 degrees in Birmingham and central Alabama has at least one gray, rainy day and night ahead of it, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast sets the chance of rain at 80 percent today and 70 percent tonight before clearing starts late Thursday morning. The high today should be near 62 degrees and the overnight low about 49 degrees.

The high Thursday should again be about 62 degrees but the low going into Friday morning should be a chill 36 degrees. Friday will be the cold day with a high near 54 degrees and the overnight low possibly touching the freeze mark of 32 degrees on Saturday morning.
